Ms. Patricia Fairclough is a 2001 graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, with a degree in Elementary Education. Upon completion of her internship at Air Base Elementary, she was immediately offered a position as a permanent faculty member. She distinguished herself while serving as an enthusiastic, educational pioneer. Her numerous contributions to our total school program led to her being honored as the “Rookie Teacher of the Year”. Demonstrating her unyielding commitment to educational and personal excellence, Ms. Fairclough graduated from Nova Southeastern University, December 2006, with a Master of Science Degree in Reading K-12, and in November 2008, with a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. Patricia is also a National Board Certified Teacher with a specialty in Early Childhood. Most recently she distinguished herself as Florida’s Recipient for the Unsung Heroes” Award sponsored by ING, which acknowledged her as a teacher who implements creative, innovative programs for her students. Ms. Fairclough, now an eight year veteran, has served as Department Chairperson, monitoring her team’s successes in support of our SIP goals. She also serves as a literary liaison, our primary Reading Leader, sponsoring Reading Night, inspiring her peers through the sharing of BEST PRACTICES, facilitating the Accelerated Reader, STAR and FCAT Explorer programs, as well as, sponsoring an International Book Bunch Club. As a co-chair of the EESAC, she reviewed and wrote proposals benefiting all stakeholders at Air Base. Patricia actively participates in Reading Day in the Malls, maintaining her membership with the Dade Reading Association. Ms. Fairclough is an affiliate of the National Education Association, International Reading Association, National Board Certified Teachers of Miami, Inc., Pi Lambda Theta Professional Educators Sorority, and has enabled us to benefit from collaborations established as our Dade Partners liaison. In addition, she stunningly presented a “Book a Trip around the World” representing our school at the National Magnet Conference in Houston, Texas, as well as, the Miami Conference. Ms. Fairclough inspires others through the development of her unique learning communities, researching innovative developments on targeting students’ reading strategies and applying them to match brain-based research to accommodate for individual learning styles. She implements plans of remediation based on her research, and happily offers her gifts to other members of the faculty. She has an on-going commitment to conducting action-based research projects that lend themselves to increasing students’ comprehension through vocabulary development. Miss Fairclough’s accomplishments also positively impact her community. Patricia mentors teens at-risk and shares inspirational dance as a positive outlet to self-expression. She serves as an active member in the Homestead community and was appointed to the City’s Education Committee, by the Mayor of Homestead-Lynda Bell. This afforded Patricia a venue to develop an Educational Compact between the City of Homestead and MDCPS. She was honored to initiate its implementation for the Region IV Principals and the Regional Superintendent enabling the collaborative efforts of the City and local schools to come to fruition. We appreciate our Miss Fairclough, a model teacher and productive citizen, who unhesitatingly offers constant generosity. Her commitment and dedication empower and inspire us as she continues her quest as a lifelong learner.
